The Selfless Challenge

This challenge has come to my mind these past few weeks. I was having a talk with my father-in-law, the Notorious G.A.F. We were talking about God's provision and if you are in desperate need of something, then instead of focusing on this problem, begin to sew into this area...for example, if you are in need of food, then what food you have, you should share with someone else in need. If you need a car that runs better and constantly needs fixing, then give someone a ride with the car you already have, etc. I also discussed God's provision with one of my coworkers, Dan, and of course, my wonderful and wise husband, Jared.
So God gave me a spin off on this idea, slightly altered...
If you want new clothes, instead of buying for yourself, give someone in need clothes. If you want to go out to dinner, buy someone else in need a gift card, and stay home for dinner. Okay, so now the reality check, some of you may be in desperate need of the basics, like toilet paper, cleaning supplies, diapers, a heating bill paid, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. So, get creative. Borrow your neighbor's newspaper, and search for a buy one, get one free ad. Give one roll of toilet paper to the church need bank and keep the other for yourself. Look for a good deal on Lysol and the money you saved, give another one away. If you don't have money to pay your energy bill, invite someone that is also in need to spend the evening with you, or even host a small group.
If you are anything like me, you will begin to find faults in this plan. For instance, I don't have the money to take care of myself, let alone others. That is when God steps in and does the impossible, the amazing. When you start asking God for the ability to bless others, to show a Divine love for those who haven't been seeing it, and ask for a self-less heart, I promise you will see mountains moved. I guarantee that instead of feeling misery over what you don't have, you will start to feel something different, perhaps contentment. Instead of fear, you experience peace. Instead of despair, an overwhelming hope.
So, what do you think? Will you take the challenge?
